EWU is Going to Geneva - The Only Team from Bangladesh at the World's Top Human Rights Moot Court

Some achievements speak for themselves. This is one of them. East West University has qualified for the Advanced Rounds of the 18th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition — one of the most prestigious international human rights competitions in the world. More remarkably, EWU is the only university from Bangladesh to do so.

This year's competition drew a record 122 teams from universities across more than 30 countries — all submitting written memorials for evaluation. From that field, only the top 50 teams advanced to the oral preliminary rounds, where participants argued before distinguished judges and legal professionals from around the world. After 200 oral pleading sessions conducted over five days, only 24 teams earned a place in the Advanced Rounds. EWU is one of those 24.

The Advanced Rounds will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 13–17, 2026, with the Final Round taking place at the Palais des Nations — the European headquarters of the United Nations. EWU will compete alongside some of the most respected legal institutions in the world, including the University of Oxford (UK), University of New South Wales (Australia), St. Thomas University (Canada), Koç University (Türkiye), and top national law schools from India, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

The EWU team representing Bangladesh on this global stage consists of Md. Salmun Alam (Oralist), Shagufta Chowdhury Adrita (Oralist), Nur-A Ariya Alam, Lecturer, Department of Law (Coach), and Abdur Rahman Jobair (Observer). Getting here was not easy. It required months of rigorous preparation, countless rounds of practice, and the kind of dedication that does not show up on any transcript. This achievement reflects all of that — and places EWU's Department of Law firmly on the map of international legal advocacy.

Bangladesh will have one voice in Geneva this July. It will be EWU's.
