The 21st East West University Astro-Olympiad 2026 concluded on July 31, 2026, with its national final round and prize-giving ceremony held at the EWU campus and the Novotheatre auditorium. The event was organized by the Bangladesh Astronomical Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, with East West University serving as title sponsor.
The final round was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of EWU's Board of Trustees, alongside Prof. Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU, and Mashhurul Amin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Astronomical Association. A total of 210 contestants from across the country competed in the national final exam across junior and senior categories, followed by special planetarium shows at the National Museum of Science and Technology.
The closing ceremony saw 30 students, 15 from the junior group and 15 from the senior group, awarded based on merit. These selected pre-trainees will now undergo intensive training to prepare them to represent Bangladesh at the international Astro-Olympiad stage.
Md. Anwar Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, attended as chief guest, alongside former Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, SPARRSO Chairman Md. Rashidul Islam, and other senior officials, who commended the initiative for encouraging youth engagement with space science.
