EWU Launches Foreign Language Center with Japan's Ambassador Present

EWU has inaugurated its Foreign Language Center, with Japan's Ambassador to Bangladesh attending as Chief Guest.

ast West University inaugurated its Foreign Language Center on July 9, 2026, at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium, marking a significant step toward enhancing student employability and global connectivity through language education.

His Excellency Mr. Saida Shinichi, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, attended the ceremony as Chief Guest, describing the launch as a timely step in preparing students for the global stage and expressing optimism that it would further strengthen ties between Bangladesh and Japan. He also thanked EWU for selecting Japanese as the center's first language curriculum.

The program was chaired by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the EWU Board of Trustees and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, who noted that the center was established in response to the Prime Minister's call for students to learn a third language, positioning them as globally competitive graduates. Mr. Hedayatul Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, attended as Special Guest, reaffirming government support for such educational initiatives.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shams Rahman delivered the welcome speech, describing the center as a hub for academic and cultural exchange. The ceremony was also attended by EWU faculty and students, members of the Japan Alumni Association of Bangladesh, and representatives from the Embassy of Japan.
