The Department of Law at East West University delivered a strong showing at the International Conference on Evolving Refugee Protection Architectures in South Asia 2026 (ICERPASA 2026), held on June 27, 2026, at the Department of Law, University of Chittagong. The conference was organized by the University of Chittagong's HEAT Project in collaboration with the Bangladesh Center for Refugee Law Studies, with the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust serving as strategic partner.
The conference featured two major segments, Paper Presentation and Poster Presentation, bringing together scholars, practitioners, and students from Bangladesh and abroad.
In the Paper Presentation segment, EWU faculty members Oishe Rahman and Shaikh Mirazur Rahman presented their research. Oishe Rahman, Lecturer at the Department of Law, was honored with the Best Paper Award for her paper on Refugee Status Determination Without a National Asylum System. Student Radia Nowsin also presented her research, alongside EWU alumni Md. Banyamin Abdullah and Kaushik Dutta, who presented a joint research paper.
The department also excelled in the Poster Presentation segment. Tanjim Maliha received the Outstanding Poster Award and Kazi Ayman Awsaf earned an Honourable Mention in Panel 2, while Samiatul Islam won the Best Poster Award in Panel 1. Poster presentations by Sadia Rahman Ritu and Muhfiqur Rahman were also selected among the 20 accepted posters at the conference.
The results reflect a strong showing for EWU's Department of Law across every segment of the conference, from faculty research to student and alumni participation.
