The Department of Pharmacy at East West University celebrated World Pharmacists Day 2026 with a seminar titled "Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures in Bangladesh," held on September 28, 2026, at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium.
Mr. Md. Nasser Shahrear Zahedee, Chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and a member of EWU's Board of Trustees, gave the keynote speech. Mr. Md. Alamgir Hossain, Director General of the Directorate General of Drug Administration, attended as Chief Guest, and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shams Rahman joined as Special Guest. The program was presided over by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, and opened with a welcome address from Prof. Dr. Md. Amirul Islam, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy.
Speakers talked about the growing role of pharmacy in modern healthcare and the need for closer industry and academic ties, so graduates come out with practical skills, fresh thinking, and strong ethical standards. They also stressed that empowering pharmacists is key to patient safety, drug quality, and fair access to healthcare across the country.
Students had their own part in the day through a Poster Presentation and a Pharma Olympiad, followed by an awards ceremony for the winners. The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, faculty members, officials, and current students and alumni of the department were also present.
