On May 3, 2026, Prof. Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson of the Department of Information Studies at East West University, took the stage as a Guest Speaker at a high-profile event marking World Press Freedom Day. Jointly organized by UNESCO and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) at MIDAS Center, Dhanmondi, the discussion centered around rebuilding public trust and strengthening media independence in Bangladesh.

Prof. Dr. Dilara touched on how the rise of digital media has reshaped the landscape of journalism — bringing new possibilities but also serious responsibilities. She stressed the need for media literacy and ethical media practices in an era where information spreads faster than ever.

The gathering brought together voices from government, academia, civil society, and the media — all working toward a more credible and trustworthy press in Bangladesh.
